Venus in Fur by David Ives
Performed in English at the Theatre of the NO
28th June to 5th August 2024 for 6 weeks
Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Mondays at 20:00
Thomas Novachek, playwright and first time director, is getting ready to go home and have dinner with his fiancée. He has spent a very long day auditioning a "living panoply of outcasts" for the part of Vanda. He is frustrated and disheartened, and worries there is no actress good enough to play his lead.
In walks Vanda Jordan, an enigmatic actress, seemingly a few hours late for her audition. The director, reluctant at first, agrees to see her and gets drawn into her act. Venus in Fur then turns into a play within a play and the audience is caught between what is 'real' and what is 'acted'. Lines are blurred as actress and director become the characters of the play.
This is an intoxicating, contemporary, dark comedy of desire, seduction and kink written by American playwright David Ives. A smash Broadway hit, it is hailed by the New York Times as “seriously smart and very funny”.
At the Theatre of the NO, the first English speaking theatre in the heart of Athens, from June 28th until August 5th.
