"Pounta Zeza" Beach - Lavrio - Sunset at Sounio
Our departure point is at Larissis Station at 9:30 a.m. and our trip is about to set off. We will head to Lavrio, we will cross the city with our first destination Punta Zeza beach.
It is a beach very close to the town of Lavrion, in the bay of Panormos. It has a crescent-shaped sandy beach, an organized beach bar, with sunbeds as well as the possibility to enjoy coffee, juice and even food. However, there are also trees capable of shade and coolness. A beach suitable for young and old visitors, as the bay is closed and even when it blows, there are no waves. we will stay until noon, (those who wish can stay on the beach and on the way back embark with destination Sounion). However, there are also trees capable of shade and coolness. A beach suitable for children and adults, as the bay is closed and even when it blows, there are no waves. We will stay until noon, (those who wish can stay on the beach and on the way back embark with destination to Sounion).
Then, we will return to Lavrio for our lunch and coffee, choosing from a variety of taverns and cafes in the port as well as in the surrounding alleys. We will have free time for a walk, where we will discover the beautiful neoclassical buildings, the First Primary School, whose architecture is worthy of admiration and today houses the Mineralogical Museum of Lavrion, the Town Hall of Lavreotiki at the Port, the Statue, a figure of a woman representing the Mother, Sister, Woman, Fiancée of the exiled prisoners of Makronissos, as well as the Clock that today operates as a cafeteria. In the past, around 1870 to 1880 it was the entrance (Concierge) of the Hellenic Metallurgical Company. The role of the clock referred to the exact arrival and departure of staff, since the financial situation of employees did not allow the purchase of an individual watch.
In the afternoon, after we have enjoyed the walk in beautiful Lavrion, we will head to Sounion and more specifically the temple of Poseidon, from where we will enjoy the most magnificent sunset as well as the magnificent sea view. The temple of Poseidon was built in 444 B.C. In the same archaeological site are the remains of the small temple of Athena Souniada, the fortress with the walls and the small settlement inside. Also included is the ancient harbor which was in the shadow of Poseidon. It is a great spot to enjoy the sunset.
After the sunset, we will depart for Athens.
